The ferry ride out to the San Juan islands is a pleasant one. It’s long enough that you can relax and enjoy the scenery and you will likely pass some smaller boats along the way. We chose to visit Friday Harbor.
Once we arrived, we n0ticed the large expanse of untamed land, which was a refreshing pace after being in the Seattle metro. You can travel in your own car or take the bus to get around Friday Harbor. Taking the bus means you will want to let the bus driver know you were dropped off at another location if you choose to walk to another bus stop. Otherwise, they will be concerned for your safety. It was refreshing to hear that they care so much :).
One of the events you can participate in is the whale watching expeditions. We did not choose to go on one, but they are popular, so be sure to book ahead.
One of the more famous sites is the light house. If you want to photograph it, be sure to get there early. There tend to be many people surrounding it on a nice day.
